Was founded on the premise that professionals in many building performance industries were not trained to industry standards and performed poorly in their fields. The quest to produce higher quality sectors of professionals became our main objective. HPINE is a collaboration of experts in their specialized fields and industries that strive to produce the very best practitioners of their trade. Higher Education is the primary goal of HPINE. Our students benefit from expert education and hands on training. Our instructors have over 30 years of experience in various building performance fields.

John Mitchell

John is the Dean of Education for the Home Performance Institute of New England. As dean, John develops and oversees all home performance, NATE and HVAC and Fuel Branded training and protocol. Previously, John was the owner and CEO of JLC Green Technologies, an International Training and Testing Center for Home Performance. He is also The Director of Energy For New England Total Energy and outlines and oversees all Home Performance work and sets Company Policies for such. He has authored and written field, safety and training manuals that are used as a standard of knowledge in the industry today. John is called upon by companies to mentor and train it’s employees be it office or field on protocol and work performance as start ups or preexisting to become more efficient and professional. He has carried numerous certifications that include BPI Analyst, BPI Envelope, BPI Heating Specialist, BPI Multi Family Analyst, DOE Qualified Assessor, HERS Rater Assessor, EPA Lead SupervisorContractor, EPA Lead Designer, DOL Asbestos Supervisor, BPI DOE Quality Assurance, BPI Proctor, ABRA Forensic Consultant, 40 hr HAZMAT, American Chemistry Counsel for SPF and many more certifications that apply to his field of work. John consults with utility companies and private companies on developing and implementing protocols in the Home Performance Industries in order to raise the bar on qualified personnel as well as procedures.. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for HPACT, he Chairs the Training and Education Committee and participates on the technical committee as well as Safety Compliance Committee for NETE. John has been seen on Extreme Home Makeover and was interviewed on CNN for his expertise in this industry. Health and Safety are John’s first priority with emphasis on

improving (IAQ) Indoor Air Quality.

Jim Nazarenus

Jim is a Proctor for the Home Performance Institute of New England. He has over 30 years experience in the Home Performance Industry. He has consulted in pilot programs for energy auditing for the state of Connecticut. Jim was lead supervisor and diagnostic specialist for Lantern Energy and prior to that he was the lead supervisor for WDJ Construction Company. Certifications include BPI Analyst, BPI Envelope, BPI Heating Specialist, BPI Multi-family, DOE Qualified Assessor, Lead and Asbestos. DOE Quality Assurance and BPI Proctor

Reggie Minor

Reggie is an Instructor for Home Performance Institute of New England. He has over 30 years experience in the heating and cooling industry. He started working for his family business in high school and worked his way up gaining valuable skills as a technician and a business owner. With a BS in Business Management, Reggie has used his education and experience to obtain the highest license attainable in CT. He has his Master License and several BPI certifications including Envelope Professional, Multifamily Building Analyst Professional and Building Analyst Professional. He believes in training the technicians to problem solve so they fix the equipment the right way, the first time.

Shawn Collins

Shawn is an Instructor for Home Performance Institute of New England. He has over 20 years experience in the heating and cooling industry. He has his B2 license and is currently an apprentice for his S2 license. He has his BPI Building Analyst and Envelope Certifications. His continued presence in the field adds to his experience as a hands on instructor. His expertise installing equipment, troubleshooting problem jobs and training new hires is an added value to the Home Performance Institute.

Gary Lisiewski

Gary is an advisor for Home Performance Institute of New England. Gary has his BA in technical education and has worked in the energy industry for over 30 years. Gary was a key player in helping HPINE become a Certified Testing Center. He literally built the school from the ground up. He spearheaded many of the expansions of the school. He shares the philosophy of hands on training to continuously improve the content and quality of the educational curriculum.
