NATE HVACR Certification

North American Technician Excellence is the leading non-profit certification program for technicians in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) industry that is supported by the entire industry. The certification process is divided into tests that recognize different levels of experience and knowledge. You can tailor your NATE certification to your interests, and skill level. NATE certification requires that you pass the Core Exam and one or more Specialty exams.

NATE Core Certification Training

$275 8 hrs.

This course offers training for the NATE Core Service, NATE Air-to-Air Heat Pump, NATE Air Conditioning, and NATE Gas Furnace Service specialty certifications. The Core Service training covers construction knowledge and HVACR-specific knowledge in the areas of safety, tools, basic construction, science, temperature and humidity, and electricity. The Air-to-Air Heat Pump training covers installation, service, maintenance, and repair of Air-to-Air Heat Pump systems. System sizes are limited to 30 tons or less cooling capacity. The Air Conditioning training covers installation, service, maintenance, and repair of Air-to-Air AC systems. System sizes are limited to 30 tons or less cooling capacity. The Gas Furnace training covers installation, service, maintenance, and repair of gas furnaces. System sizes are within 400,000 BTUs heating capacity.

NATE Installation Specialty

$25 each 2.5 hrs.

Technicians prepare installation sites (including removal of existing HVACR equipment), fabricate and assemble systems. These technicians should be able to properly power up and set control positions to cycle equipment through primary heating, cooling and blower operations under on-site or off-site supervision. The installation technician may take specialized readings, such as temperatures, refrigerant circuit pressure and basic VOM electrical readings, of both operating and non-operating equipment.

NATE Service Specialty

$25 each 2.5 hrs.

Technicians must be able to complete the same tasks as installation technicians as well as independently power up and adjust control settings to cycle equipment through all designed-for sequences. Service technicians must be able to acquire, evaluate and interpret necessary readings to determine the adequacy and acceptability of meeting system operation specifications. These technicians must also be able to perform sufficient field diagnostic procedures to determine causes of inadequate performance and identify corrective actions as necessary. The following specialties award a 2 year certification.
